In July 2012, the Securities Commission Malaysia announced the introduction of two new categories of Registered Representatives (RRs): Trading Representatives (TRs) for execution of trades and Introducing Representatives (IRs) to act as introducers or marketing agents.
The objective of this new measure is to promote the growth of the stockbroking industry through strengthening the role of capital market representatives as well as facilitating the provision of specialised services and access to a greater client base.
To ensure that the RRs are compliant with all relevant provisions of securities laws and guidelines and of a level commensurate with the scope of activities they can carry out, SIDC is conducting multi-stage training programmes for TRs and IRs aimed at enhancing their knowledge and skills towards becoming competent market representatives.
