Salleh Hassan

Salleh is the Director of Professional Standards and Qualifications at the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC), the learning and development arm of the Securities Commission Malaysia. Salleh has more than 30 years of experience in corporate governance and professional education. He oversees initiatives and activities that lead towards strengthening the competency and capacity of professionals in the Malaysian capital market via the industry-wide competency framework (ICF), certifications and qualifications, and the award-winning online Competency Management Systems (CMS). For his contributions, Salleh was a recipient of the Movers and Shakers Award in the Asia HRD Awards 2022.

As the subject matter resource person on corporate governance, Salleh also leads in the development of curriculum, courses and industry insights initiatives. He worked with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to develop the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard and thereafter, had been an assessor of Malaysian, the Philippines and Vietnamese listed companies. He has worked with, among others, Minority Shareholders Watch Group (MSWG), Transparency International (TI), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in various research and training initiatives.

He has taught and conducted corporate training in areas of strategic management accounting, research methodology, corporate governance and sustainability reporting at local and international platforms to directors and senior management of listed, unlisted companies, sovereign wealth fund, and government ministries and agencies.

Prior and during his tenure as an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Nottingham University Business School (Malaysia), he presented and published papers on financial reporting, accounting policy choice and corporate governance/sustainability at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals respectively.

Salleh holds a Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Accounting and Finance, a Master of Business (Accounting) from Edith Cowan University, Australia, and the Advanced Business Management Programme (ABMP) from the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Switzerland. He has completed the Mandatory Accreditation Programme (MAP) and the Leading for Impact Programme (LIP) – both are required for directors of companies listed on Bursa Malaysia Securities. He is a HRD Corp Certified Trainer, a Fellow and a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM).
