YAM Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah

YAM Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah is a social advocate in Malaysia. She is Royal Patron for Make-A-Wish Malaysia, a charitable organization granting wishes to Malaysian children with critical illnesses and President of Alliance Francaise Kuala Lumpur, a not-for-profit association that promotes French language and French culture in Malaysia. Tengku Zatashah received France’s highest recognition award Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) in 2017. She was also awarded Datuk Setia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SSIS) (First Class) award in 2009 from Sultan of Selangor.
However, she is most notable as a strong environmental activist in Malaysia as Founder/Advocate of #sayno2plastic campaign which she launched in 2016. Tengku Zatashah has been actively lobbying with authorities, campaigning to the public as well as university lecture talks on the catastrophic plastic pollution, and she has shown tirelessly through her social media ways in effectively #stopsingleuseplastic and #reducewaste. She has been involved in many beach cleanups, dive cleanups, coral replanting as well as tree planting activities around Malaysia. Tengku Zatashah was awarded ADEX Ocean Ambassador at ADEX Singapore 2019 for her work in environment. In 2020 she was invited to be one of the 250 speakers from 122 countries at the world’s largest sustainability expo in Paris at Change NOW Summit at the Grand Palais, and the only speaker from Malaysia.
Tengku Zatashah in 2016 launched her campaign #zerofoodwastage by getting hotels and supermarkets to channel their surplus food to Kechara Soup Kitchen to feed the homeless and urban poor families, and keep food out of the landfills. #Zerofoodwastage since inception 2016, has saved 810 tonnes that has benefitted nearly 40,000 people. To date #zerofoodwastage has saved 1,000 tonnes of surplus food. Tengku was a speaker for TEDxUTM talk on #zerofoodwastage.
She is Board of Trustee to Selangor Youth Community (SAY), NGO for the youth community; of which one of her passions is supporting Klothcare Fabric recycling movement, she is also Board of Trustee on the Raja Muda Selangor Foundation for underprivileged children scholarships and training in the arts; and Board of Trustee to the Food Bank Malaysia Foundation.
In 2020, Tengku Zatashah developed and launched a collaborative social media viral campaign #NoMoreLitter #BecauseWeCare in the fight to raise awareness against the growing masks and gloves (PPE) litter waste in Malaysia, in an effort to educate that PPE waste must be properly disposed of in the trash bins and not littered on the streets due to its possible biohazard contamination.
Tengku Zatashah is a graduate with Magna Cum Laude from American Graduate School of International Relations & Diplomacy, Paris ; as well as Cours de la Civilisation Francaise de la Sorbonne in Paris, Finance executive program from INSEAD Business School (Singapore) and Women Directors’ Programme by Ministry of Women, Family and Community Develeopment and NIEW.
She is currently Board Director of public listed company InNature Berhad.
