Zulkifli Salim
Head of Utility Scale, RE Malaysia, GENTARI
Zulkifli Salim is currently the Head of Utility Scale, Renewable Energy Malaysia at Gentari.
He graduated with a B.Eng (Hons) from Imperial College London in 2003 and has an MSc in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Manchester in 2006. He also received an MBA from the University of Sheffield in 2018.
Zul started his career in 2003 with TNB Transmission, System Planning Department where he was responsible to conduct power flow simulation of Malaysia’s national grid, ensuring the network is running in an optimum and secure manner.
Upon completion of his MSc in 2006, Zul landed a role with Ove Arup & Partners UK where he developed his engineering consultancy skills in the built environment, utilities and energy sector. He was involved in several on-site Solar PV projects, private wire networks as well as Combined Heat and Power (CHP) district heating schemes in the UK and Europe. He also played a Technical Advisory role in a number of utility scale renewable energy and battery storage projects, and was the lead Project Manager for the 1st Battery Storage project commissioned under UK National Grid’s Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) scheme.
Zul then accepted a role with BuroHappold UK in 2019, to lead the energy consulting team on a number of large-scale developments in Middle East and Europe, developing strategies to build energy infrastructures that will allow the region to diversify away from fossil fuels, into renewables and zero carbon economy.
He returned to Malaysia in December 2021 to join PETRONAS New Energy (now part of Gentari), after spending 16 years working in the United Kingdom. He is excited to be part of the energy transition in Malaysia, building a better future for our next generation.
